BACKGROUND
1248 Angels was born out of a shared belief that early-stage investing could be more accessible, more aligned, and more representative of the founders building the future.
The co-founders, De’Havia Stewart and Jewel Walker, first met in 2021 while both were active in the Atlanta startup ecosystem. At the time, De’Havia was working at a venture capital firm sourcing early-stage startups, while Jewel was building and operating a marketing firm focused on supporting founders and venture firms. Through her work, Jewel helped produce and grow major startup and technology events including Atlanta Startup Battle, the monthly pitch competition Startup Showdown, and global convenings such as Smart City Expo.
As their paths continued to overlap, they began collaborating more closely - hosting events together, sharing deal flow, and supporting founders across the ecosystem. Through this work, a clear gap emerged: many accredited investors lacked access to high-quality early-stage opportunities, while founders struggled to build diversified, value-added cap tables beyond traditional networks.
Motivated by this imbalance, they set out to create a platform that could thoughtfully connect founders and investors earlier, with greater alignment and intention. That effort became 1248 Angels - an early-stage investment platform designed to help founders diversify their cap tables while giving accredited investors access to high-growth startups.
Since launching 1248 Angels, both founders have deepened their involvement in venture investing, bringing complementary perspectives from sourcing, diligence, operations, and ecosystem building. Together, they continue to focus on building a disciplined, founder-aligned platform rooted in long-term partnership and conviction.
